The photographs in this collection have been taken over the span of 3 years and through the many gigs and shows in Kuala Lumpur; through good and bad light. I approached taking these images in a way that it would tell a story that describes the musician, the atmosphere and venue, the energy and the vibe of the local music scene.
The images in this collection are of musicians from the independent underground music scene as well as the jazz club scene. Nothing form this collection is mainstream. It's in the underground scene we find our best talents and the real music. It's in the clubs that R&B, Jazz and Soul really comes alive.
The local sub-mainstream scene is just teeming with wonderful music. Local and visiting artists pack out clubs night after night with their awesome performances. You will find stuff from underground rock shows, rock and jazz festivals, jazz club gigs and even from gigs organized inside a room for an audience of thirty. You will find the best of the local musicians here as well as wonderful visiting musicians from the west.
This collection pays tribute to the awesome people that have strived hard to keep the scene alive. This page is to all those musicians who have been slogging it out over the years doing what they do simply for the love of it.
